Building Capacity of IT Instructors in Kyrgyzstan
The University of Central Asia’s (UCA) School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) held a graduation ceremony on July 19th in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) for 50 Information Technology Instructors from 26 secondary schools in Naryn and Osh Oblasts, who completed the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) training programme delivered by UCA. The ICDL training programme was implemented with the support of the University of Central Asia as an official operator of ICDL in Central Asia, and was conducted under the “Demilgeluu Jashtar” project, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Fifth Summer Upgrading Camp Held in Naryn and Khorog
This year 130 Grade 9 and 10 students from Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan participated in the University of Central Asia’s (UCA) three-week Summer Upgrading Camp in Naryn (Kyrgyzstan) and Khorog (Tajikistan) from July 1-19 2019.

A post-graduate Certificate Programme in Natural Resources Management, launched on July 15th 2019 at the University of Central Asia (UCA), has enrolled 21 participants including faculty members and researchers of Badakhshan University, Bamyan University, Khorog State University and the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) in Afghanistan.

Central Asia Exceeds Global Suicide Rate
A 30-year literature review on suicide in Central Asia was presented at a Public Lecture organised by the University of Central Asia’s Cultural Heritage and Humanities Unit (CHHU) in Dushanbe (Tajikistan) on July 3rd. The lecture on Suicide in Central Asia: A Systematic Study of Risk and Protective Factors was delivered by Shahnaz Savani, Lecturer of Social Work at the University of Houston-Downtown (USA).

Prince Aly Muhammad Visits Khorog Campus
Prince Aly Muhammad Aga Khan visited the University of Central Asia’s Khorog campus during a two-day private visit to Tajikistan in June. While at UCA, he toured the campus facilities, and learnt more about the School of Arts and Sciences’ contribution to education and research in Tajikistan.

The University of Central Asia’s (UCA) football team claimed victory at the Aga Khan Development Network’s (AKDN) Football Tournament on July 6th. Over 200 staff and friends of AKDN staff attended the tournament held in Bishkek.

GBAO Deputy Governor Lauds SPCE English Course
Umedjon Nosirzoda, Deputy Governor of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast has been enrolled in English classes at the University of Central Asia’s School of Professional and Continuing Education in Khorog (Tajikistan) for two months.

Second Summer School on Learning Landscapes Kicks Off at UCA
The Mountain Societies Research Institute (MSRI) of the University of Central Asia's (UCA) and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) began its Second Summer School on ‘Learning Landscapes through Environmental Research and Monitoring” on July 3rd at UCA for 22 undergraduate and master’s students from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Boosting Tourism Development in Tekeli
The University of Central Asia’s (UCA) School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) conducted a training for 25 tour guides in Tekeli (Kazakhstan) from June 25th to July 3rd 2019. Participants completed 72 hours of training, including both practical and theoretical knowledge, and was aimed at developing internal and external tourism services in the region.

UCA Conducts Teacher Development Sessions
The University of Central Asia’s (UCA) Education Improvement Programme (EIP) conducted professional development sessions for 59 teachers from English and Russian medium schools in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan from June 13-21 at UCA’s Naryn campus.
